The Glamour of the Pin-up

Darn! These photos make me want to do my own pin-up poster!

I met Corina about a year ago during a bridal editorial shoot and I was so pleased when I got a call from her that she wanted me to create some some pin-up images for her, in the vintage 50s photography style of Betty Grable, Bettie Page and Rita Hayworth. I knew enough about the genre to feel comfortable accepting the request, but truly, this was something out of my comfort zone. I was up for a new challenge!

So being the professional student that I am, I scrutinized magazines and websites and pin-up images. I was just swept away by the glamour of it all. There’s something about dressing up in cute outfits, getting all glamed up, and posing (stomach-in-chest-out-dimples-on-display) appeals to the little girl in me. Perhaps since I never played with dolls (in the normal fashion, I might say) or dress-up – I’m regressing into the days of my girly girl childhood. Ah…to wear a tutu again!

But anyway…here are my favorite images of Corina. She’s simply amazing – did her own wardrobe styling and make-up. Her friend did her hair. And we just totally lucked out that her black and white striped top matched my lounge chair! How cool is that? If you are curious about her awesome tattoo, that’s her dad who passed away recently. I was so humbled by the idea that Corina chose ME to  honor her dad’s memory and immortalize him via my art.
